Whilst working at Underground Studios in late 2008, Matt was particularly excelling in matching the sounds that inspired us and the sounds we created. He was also strong in finding harmonies whilst recording vocals, and as an experienced drummer himself he knew how to pull a great drum sound that excited us. Matt worked with us so passionately that he admitted that he didn't sleep the entire time we were there. The studio was super comfy and super clean, and an excellent place to record.

Before co-producing the sessions with Forrester Savell, Matt worked extensively with us in pre-production.
He assisted us in selecting material to record, arranging horn parts and devising how we could beef-up and semi-modernise our retro R&B sound, Matt was totally committed to the project.
Matt imbued each take on the album with feel-good vibes and manically conducted the ring-in horn players we hired.
Following the project through to completion in Melbourne and at Underground Studios, Matt worked tirelessly to ensure that we would end up with a record we were proud of.

Matt’s initial vision and creative input fit into exactly what were striving to achieve right from the beginning. He boosted our sound into something awe-inspiring that I never thought was possible in Australia. He has made it possible to get that fat spectrum of sound we were searching for, That ground rumbling bigness mixed with shimmering harmonics that so many other artist’s struggle to find. We looked at several studios around Perth when gearing up to do the first Siren Tower recording. While Matt Gio's Underground facility may not have the history some of Perth's more established studios, it's future is assured as Matt has done an amazing job building a first rate recording environment.
Not only does Underground offer a quality space, Matt's abilities as an engineer and producer have garnered him an excellent reputation in the West Australian music scene. His music knowledge and friendly personality are the perfect combination for the studio bringing both motivation and focus to each and every project he works on.

Underground is totally set up for creativity. You've got the usual cool studio stuff - awesome vintage gear, great sounding rooms - but there's an offbeat aspect to it that totally distinguishes it from ever other studio I've been in. And you're surrounded by all these toys you just want to play with! Vintage synths, amps, EQs, drum machines, the only mellotron I've ever seen, and even a motherfucking 80's arcade machine! Gio knows his shit. Nuff said.
